I dont have any light tubes for Aristo lamps, but i do have a used Aristo D2 and a Zone VI Cold light. (Zone VI is also out of business)

A light sensor is built in to work with the Zone VI light control, but the tube is the same.

When you said you had problems with the Aristo flickering, I was surprised, because the tubes a 10,000 hour life and I have never known anyone who actually burned one out from use.

Aristo's original tubes had kind of blue-white color, which worked just fine for the graded paper used at that time. People used Graded papers. All paper were made in specific contrast grades and packages were marked with the grades, which were 1 - 2- -3 - 4 - 5. Printers had to have an assortment of grades. The paper was "color" blind, and changing filters had no effect on it. So the color of the light had no effect on contrast.

When Variable Contrast papers came into general use, filters that controlled the color of the light were used to change contrast. The color filters were designed to work with incandescent enlarger lamps that had a lot of red and yellow in their light.

Since the original Aristo tubes were blue/white fluorescent tubes they had almost no red/yellow and did not work well with contrast filters available.

Aristo redesigned the phosphor used in their tubes to put out a light that worked with the filters used for contrast control for enlarging lamps.

What color is the light from your Arsto? If it is a blue/whie , its the old V45 tube. If it is a green/yellow is the newer V54 tube.

Both the used Aristo and t Zone VI have the older blue/white tube and both sell for $150. I also have the controller for the Zone VI for $100.

I dont sell Beselers. I only sell Omegas and the occasional Leitz Focomat.

But I service all kinds in schools and colleges and think the Omega is best of the lot .

Why dont you go back to the guy with Omega and tell him you are considering the Beseler, because it's cheaper and see if he will knock a $100 or so off the Omega.

The Omega is a professional level piece of equipment that would have been used in full service pro level print house.

It would be a shame to pass up a chance to get it.

The D-5 with a colorhead was made specifically for color printing. And you can use the Yellow and Magenta color filters for printing Variable Contrast papers up to only 3 contrast.

It only makes sense to have a color enlarger if you are primarily making color prints and just do the occasional B&W print.

If you are only going to do B&W prints, a D-5 with condense head and a set Ilford color filters is a better choice. The Ilford filters go from 0-7 contrast. It's what all the custom B&W print makers I know use.

For B&W you really don't need the ESECO computer head and I have never known a B&W printer who used one.

Aristo has gone out of business. Their representative told me, late last year, that they were considering opening up on a restricted basis, selling only parts. But I have not heard whether this will happen.

They do show up occasionally on eBay

I have a couple of used D2 Cold Lights which I am in the process of selling.

If you are interested contact me .

I am revising this to say that I have a new D2HI Power Supply.

If your power supply failed, and the tube is still OK this could fix it.

Do you know enough about the electrical part of it, to tell if this is the problem .

If you dont know about the electrical parts, you can send the cold light to me and I will go over it and see if I can fix it.

Cost is $70/hr for this work plus price any any parts replaced.

The bridgework spacers between the column rails are dead give away and the fact that the column is attached base pedestal with a bolt and it doesnt have a gear crank elevator, means it began life about 1937 as the D-II. Some time after WWII the same enlarger was sold as D-2.

So you can find identical enlargers bearing D-II or D-2 name plates.

I dont believe The Omegalite, which used the new post WWII CirclLine household fluorescent tube came out after the D-II/D-2,
was discontinued but it works just fine on them .

The Omegalite worked fine on graded papers, but the old
daylight/white tube doesnt have enough yellow to work right on
modern Variable Contrast paper.

I am told light stores may carry or can order "Warm" white tubes that work much better with modern papers.
